Premature Ejaculation (PE) is a sexual dysfunction where a man ejaculates and finds orgasm faster than usual. Usually, men find this no sooner than penetration during sexual interaction. It can be an irritating experience for both partners, as that makes sex life unpleasurable for a couple.
You can experience the same during the first intercourse or after a few interactions. Whatever the case may be, you need a thorough diagnosis of the issue to restore a proper sex life in your couple.
Know The Standard Time Of Ejaculation During Intercourse
The usual time of ejaculation is about 5 minutes after penetration or at the time when your partner finds orgasm. It is called premature ejaculation when:
- Ejaculation happens faster than your partner was expecting it.
- Causes distress to your partner due to an incomplete orgasm
- When it happens in each case of sexual interactions.
- The same thing happens in each penetration, and the ejaculation doesn’t take more than one minute.
- When the same thing is happening for 6-12 months.
How Often Can You Face PE?
Statistical review of the available data says that near to 35% male find such issues at least once or twice in their life. Considering the disorder, one among 5 men between the ages of 18-59 face such issues.
Causes Of PE
Most of the time, the cause of PE is a mental one, although there can be some physical cause into it. The emotional causes include:
➦ Performance tension: When a man engages in sexual activity after long abstinence, excitement and nervousness often cause PE.
➦ Stress: Stress can cause issues with sexual dysfunction of any type, including PE.
➦ Instability of relationship: Uneasiness with the relationship, which can either be some abuse in past, or hostility towards the partner, can cause PE.
➦ Confidence issues: Depression, guilt feeling or low confidence with body image issues can cause PE.
Physical causes of PE are:
- ED (erectile dysfunction)
- Issues related to TSH, prolactin, and oxytocin can cause PE.
- Extra sensitiveness can cause PE.
Complications Of PE
PE does not affect fertilization as often test results showed that men with PE have no issue with their sperm count or sperm motility. However, the complication that PE results in is the relationship with your partner.
Your PE will not satisfy your partner in bed. It might so happen that when she is just feeling sensations for her orgasm, you ejaculate, and as a result of that, she remains unsatisfied with the intercourse.
These things, when happening once in a while, will not cause any disturbance, and that can be well endured. However, when the same repeats every time for a month or a year, then relationship distancing starts developing, making things more complicated than usual.
How Is PE Diagnosed?
A urologist will ask some questions to you in order to reach the conclusion that you have PE. He will ask you:
- The duration for which you have been facing the issue.
- Whether there is any incident that makes you feel oversensitive at the time of intercourse?
- Do you face it in every sexual interaction?
- Whether it happens only during intercourse or it happens during masturbation too?
- How difficult does it become for you to maintain an erection?
He will also ask you about alcohol and other supplements that you take. All the questions are very much personal, but answer them promptly, so that your doctor can evaluate your PE and diagnose it properly.
Treatment Of PE
Once a Urologist identifies and make sure that you are suffering from PE, treatment of the same is to be started. The usual treatment procedure includes:
1. Behavioural Therapy:
- Start and stop method, where you will have to hold your orgasm for 30 seconds, when you are about to orgasm. Do this 3-4 times each day to find better control on your orgasm and elongate the time of ejaculation.
- The squeezing technique is another technique where you squeeze the tip of the penis for 30 seconds just at the time of ejaculation, causing the loss of an erection. Continue it for 3 times each time you are going to face orgasm.
- Diversion of thought is a process where, just before you find orgasm, you need to distract your mind from intercourse to some non-sexual factor. This is also going to help you a lot during intercourse.
2. Counselling:
You can undergo counselling with a psychiatrist or psychologist. A urologist will assist you with such professionals. If your PE is for anxiety or depression issues or for sexual abuse in the past, you will need this therapy for your treatment.
3. Medications:
- There are different medications for the treatment of PE, which include some antidepressants and some ED medications (Sildenafil/Tadalafil/Vardenafil/Avanafil).
- There are some other dedicated formulae for the treatment of PE, like Dapoxetine.
4. Home Remedy:
You can practice some home remedies, too, in case you are facing PE during masturbation, too. In such cases, you can follow the behavioural therapies on your own.
Or else, there are certain food items to help you physically, like:
- Sea fish, like Salmon, Mackerel.
- Dark Chocolate to manage your magnesium level.
- Nuts and seeds that increase zinc content in your body.
- Watermelon and strawberries that will boost nitrous oxide or Vitamin C in you.
- Eggs to source of Vitamin B1 and proteins.
- Garlic and Ginger for increasing your stamina.
When To Show A Doctor?
If your PE is not allowing you to make your partner pregnant and is causing anxiety or depression in you, you must reach some doctor for assistance, otherwise it will be too late. PE will not cause any other discrepancies in you, except for changing your behaviour.
You will start feeling anxious and tensed at the time of intercourse. Then after, you will face depression, and ultimately, you will find the fear to get involved in an intercourse. Hence, whenever you find such issues in yourself, ask for medical consultation as soon as possible. This will help you prevent the condition in the early stage.
Once the same is checked, you will neither face mental hazards nor will you be anxious about the fertility or relationship issues.
